Jeron Paul

Jeron Paul is the CEO of Scalar Partners and the founder of the firm. Jeron has years of financial, valuation and strategic advisory experience ranging from small startups to Fortune 100 companies, where he has worked in both direct investing and operating roles. Jeron joined Scalar Partners after working as a Principal at vSpring Capital (2005 to 2010), a $400M venture capital firm, where he helped to source, structure, value and close 18+ deals representing more than $73M of invested capital. Before vSpring, Jeron was a Director at Thomson Financial (2004 to 2005), a division of Thomson Reuters. Jeron accepted a position with Thomson after founding Boardlink, an online business intelligence company for boards of directors, which ultimately merged into Thomson Reuters. From 1999 to 2002, Jeron worked as a consultant in Monitor Group’s Boston office where he advised clients on a range of financial, strategic, operational, and organizational improvements.

Jeron received a Masters of Business Administration from the Harvard Business School and a B.S. with a double major in Economics and Philosophy, cum laude, from Brigham Young University. Jeron currently serves as a director on the boards of Scalar Partners (Chairman) and Early Stage Legal (Chairman). He has served on the boards of Penguin Computing, Netaphor Software, Celio Corporation, and has been a formal board observer at Infusionsoft.  Jeron has also served on the board of the Rocky Mountain Venture Capital Association (RMVCA). Jeron is an Accredited Valuation Analyst (AVA), and is Series 7 and 63 licensed. Jeron is married with four children.  He enjoys climbing, trail and endurance running, mountain biking, skiing, snowboarding, and adventure racing.  

Zak Nugent

Zak Nugent is the President and Head of Sales at Scalar Partners. Prior to joining Scalar Partners, Zak was President of America Home Today, a start-up company specializing in web-based advertising. Prior to America Home Today, he was the Director of Marketing for The Foresight Group, a wealth and risk management firm. Prior to The Foresight Group, he worked for Cardinal Health in their Presource Products and Services division in Chicago. Zak received his Bachelors of Science in Economics from the University of Utah.

Jeremy Neilson

Jeremy is a Managing Director and head of LP Advisory Services at Scalar Partners. Prior to joining Scalar Partners, Jeremy spent over 6 years as the Managing Director of the State of Utah's private equity program, the Utah Fund of Funds (UFOF). Jeremy was responsible for every aspect of the program, ultimately building a nationally recognized program. The UFOF conducted a full due diligence process on its potential investments that consisted of proprietary sourcing and screening, extensive due diligence, drafting investment recommendations, negotiating legal documents and participating in advisory boards. The UFOF invested in 28 fund commitments based throughout the United States and internationally. Over the past 6 years, the UFOF visited with over 600 general partners and participated in over 150 fund site visits. Additionally, the UFOF assisted with over 3,400 high paying jobs generating over $60 million in annual Utah state tax revenue and over $1 Billion of investment in 40 Utah companies. Prior to the Utah Fund of Funds, Jeremy was an associate with the University Venture Fund where he spent time working closely with local and national venture capitalists on company due diligence. Jeremy started his professional career at Neilson Elggren's Los Angeles office, a fraud and bankruptcy forensic accounting firm. Jeremy holds a finance degree from BYU, an MBA from the University of Utah and a Juris Doctorate from Wake Forest University School of Law. 

Luis Coronel, NPA

Luis is an Vice President at Scalar Partners and is responsible for managing the firm’s valuation and transaction advisory engagements. Prior to joining Scalar Partners, Luis was an analyst at vSpring Capital, a Salt Lake City-based venture capital firm with over $400 million under management. Previously, Luis held several managerial and financial positions with firms in Argentina, including corporate HR manager for Productora Alimentaria S.A., general manager for La California, a real estate development firm, and as a financial analyst for Edward’s International Services S.A. Luis is a National Public Accountant (CPA) in Argentina and graduated with an MBA from Brigham Young University with an emphasis in finance.

Nick Hatch

Nick is a Vice President at Scalar Partners and is responsible for the firm’s secondary advisory activities.  Prior to joining Scalar Partners, Nick worked at Probitas Partners, a leading private equity fund placement and secondary advisory firm, and performed fund valuation and secondary advisory services for large US and European institutional investors.  Prior to joining Probitas Partners, Nick was an Analyst in the Venture Services group at Deutsche Bank, and advised leading venture funds with their block trades and distributions.  Nick earned a BA in Finance from the University of Utah. Nick is Series 7 and 63 licensed.

Justin King

Justin King is a Principal at Scalar Partners and is responsible for managing the firm's valuation and transaction advisory engagements. Prior to joining Scalar Partners, Justin was the founder and CEO of Tilapiana, a start-up focused on sustainable fish farming in Africa. Prior to Tilapiana, Justin was a Senior Associate in the Valuation Services Group Technology Practice of Duff & Phelps, a leading financial valuation advisory services firm. While at Duff & Phelps, Justin completed more than 75 valuations, representing $35.0+ billion in total transaction values. Justin graduated cum laude with a BS in Finance from Brigham Young University and an MBA in Entrepreneurship from the Marriott School of Management at Brigham Young University.

Ryan Parker, CPA

Ryan is a Senior Manager at Scalar Partners and is responsible for managing the firm’s valuation and accounting engagements.  Ryan is an experienced CPA previously working with accounting firms Ernst & Young and The Cadence Group consulting clients on issues including Sarbanes Oxley compliance, FAS 157 and FAS 141(R) valuation reporting and revenue recognition. He received a MAcc from the University of Utah with an emphasis in finance and venture capital.

Matt Tillotson

Matt Tillotson is an Associate at Scalar Partners and is responsible for managing the firm’s valuation and transaction advisory engagements.  Prior to joining Scalar Partners, Matt was a business consultant with Mindshare Technologies, a technology company providing automated customer feedback solutions.  Prior to Mindshare, he was an intern at vSpring Capital, a Salt Lake City-based venture capital firm with over $350 million under management.  Matt is a Level II CFA Candidate that graduated cum laude with a degree in finance from the Marriot School of Management at Brigham Young University.

Todd Miller, AVA

Todd Miller is an Associate at Scalar Partners and is responsible for managing the firm's valuation and transaction advisory engagements.  Prior to joining Scalar Partners, Todd was an associate with Horizon Partners a secondary private equity advisory firm.  Additionally, Todd worked as an analyst for Granada Advisors providing consulting and financial modeling services to small and mid-market companies in the Rocky Mountain region.  Todd also worked as an intern with Peterson Ventures performing industry analysis and a strategic growth plan for one of their portfolio companies.  Todd graduated from Brigham Young University with a degree in finance.

Matt Stapleton

Matt Stapleton is an Associate at Scalar Partners and is responsible for outbound business development at the firm. Prior to joining Scalar Partners, Matt managed FundingUniverse’s equity consulting services as their Equity Division Manager. As part of his responsibilities, he prepared clients to raise angel capital and then introduced them to interested accredited angel investors. Prior to FundingUniverse, Matt worked in intern positions with Kickstart Seed Fund and BoomStartup in Utah. Matt earned his BA in Entrepreneurship from the Marriott School of Management at Brigham Young University.

Matias Spitale

Matias is an Analyst at Scalar Partners and is responsible for valuation engagements operations. Prior to joining Scalar Partners, Matias was an analyst at SPAG SRL, a regional parts distributorship for the motorcycle market in Argentina. Previously, he worked for several accounting firms in analyst and intern roles. Matias graduated from Business Administration at Instituto Universitario Aeronáutico and is currently obtaining his Contador Publico Nacional (CPA) degree with an expected graduation date in December 2011.

Melissa Schroeder

Melissa is the Office Manager at Scalar Partners. Prior to joining Scalar Partners, Melissa was an Associate of Retail Operations for five years at an industry leading cellular corporation. As part of her responsibilities, she managed a multi-million dollar inventory room and was in charge of the customer relations within her retail location. Melissa is currently obtaining her Bachelors of Science in Finance from the University of Utah with an expected graduation in spring 2012.
